Morning Yoga in Kigali – When the Day Begins in Stillness

Now That You’ve Got a Taste – Let’s Dive Deeper into My Rwandan Journey

Now that you’ve had a little taste of my first month in Rwanda – the sweat, the laughter, and those magical moments – it’s time to dive deeper into the real heart of this adventure.

Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing more personal stories, unforgettable experiences, and reflections on what it’s truly like to live, work, and grow in a place as vibrant and awe-inspiring as this.

From encounters with mist-shrouded mountains and luxury lodges that redefine relaxation to cultural moments that have touched my soul in ways I never expected – there’s so much more to explore. And trust me, these stories will go beyond the surface, revealing not just Rwanda’s beauty, but also the incredible sense of belonging and discovery that comes with every new day here.

So let’s start with my morning routine.

Morning Yoga in Kigali – When the Day Begins in Stillness

05:50 AM. I know—it’s early. Most people would call it too early. But for me, these moments have become sacred.

Every morning in Kigali, I begin my day by greeting the sunrise—a ritual that doesn’t just bring me calm but creates a sense of presence, balance, and purpose.

At this hour, it’s just me and the birds awake. Their songs are the only sounds breaking the deep silence. The rest of the city remains quiet, wrapped in shadows that slowly dissolve as the light creeps over the horizon. Kigali, with its rolling hills and silhouettes of buildings, looks like a painting in soft shades of grey-blue before the sun rises and bathes the world in gold.

It’s hard to describe in words. It’s more of a feeling—a silent reminder that every day is a new beginning.

A Routine That Sets the Tone for the Day

For me, it’s not just about witnessing the sunrise. It’s about routine—giving myself time to pause, breathe, and listen inward before the world wakes up.

My morning yoga is more than just a physical practice. It’s a way to awaken my body, sharpen my mind, and open my heart to whatever the day brings. Each movement is intentional, and every breath becomes an opportunity to let go of yesterday’s worries and welcome today with new energy.

Manifesting the Day Ahead

As the sun begins to rise and the colors shift from deep purples to soft golden hues, I set my intention for the day. It’s often something simple:

“Today, I choose to be present.”
“I will meet challenges with patience.”
“I welcome opportunities with an open mind.”

These small reminders help me stay focused—especially on days packed with work, meetings, and new adventures here in Rwanda.

Why Sunrise Means So Much to Me

No matter where I am in the world—whether it’s on a beach in Sri Lanka, on a rooftop in New York, or here on a hill in Kigali—there’s nothing quite like a sunrise or sunset.

Whenever I get the chance to witness those moments, I take it. It’s universal—something that connects all of us, no matter the place or time.

Sunrise is my chance to welcome the day with an open heart.
Sunset is my way of giving thanks for all the experiences the day has brought me.

It’s in these moments that I feel most alive, most in harmony with the world around me.

A Tribute to Stillness

In a world that moves at a relentless pace, these mornings have become a sanctuary for me. It’s easy to get caught up in stress, expectations, and the pressure to always perform—but when I stand there and watch the sun rise over Kigali, I’m reminded of something far more essential:

Every day is a new opportunity.

So if you ever get the chance to witness a sunrise—whether you’re at home or traveling—take it. Pause. Breathe in the stillness. Let that first streak of light remind you of everything that’s possible on that day.

It’s in that silence where the real magic happens.
